What's for Breakfast?

I'm always hoping someone will ask me what my favourite meal of the day is because I am suddenly filled with the excitement of knowing I can elaborate on my passion for breakfast.

I love breakfast. I love sitting down and having breakfast near a window or just somewhere with lots of light. It's a great way to start my day. It's almost meditative since it's the one meal where I can have some quiet time for myself and reflect on how to go about my day or a time where I can simply enjoy my meal.

I never go a day without having breakfast because for one thing, I feel kind of sick when I skip breakfast and then I just starve and feel weak, and tired, and sleepy, and and yeah. I mean, even science says that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It boots your metabolism, and having a solid breakfast will reduce your chances of crashing later on in the day, as well as preventing you from giving in to high calorie foods.

I just think breakfast is so versatile. You can literally have whatever you want for breakfast. My favourite kind of breakfast is filled with eggs, toast, beans, potatoes, fruit, pancakes, spinach, jam, hot chocolate, milk, yogurt....you get the idea. Sometimes having leftovers is pretty awesome as well!

I haven't had eggs for a while now because I've been trying to reduce the amount of animal protein I take in to about once a week. This morning I had a craving for eggs, and so eggs I had!

I fried an egg over easy (doesn't look perfect I know), sauteed some mushrroms and spinach with a little bit of lemon juice, cut a slice of Italian rustic bread, a few morsels of goat brie, and dollop of marmalade to finish it off.

Let's just say it was thoroughly enjoyed. I love love LOVE eggs. I guess I'll have to dedicate a future post on eggs...

Deep-fried Everything!

Want to know a great way to use up pancake batter?

That's right, batter up everything you can think of and deep fry it!

This will probably be one of the most unhealthiest and crudest things I'll ever do to my food, but you know what, sometimes a girl just needs to have some deep fried goodness in her life! Usually, these deep fried days are spontaneous, where I'm craving lots of fat in my diet.

This all started with a craving for corndogs. I had no cornmeal and was too broke to go out and get some, so I had to be creative. I used the leftover Bratwurst sausages I had, cut them into thirds, skewered them and made mini "corndogs." After making my poor man's version of the corndog, I kind of got excited and used whatever I had in the fridge. I gathered up some mushrooms, and dumplings, impaled them onto skewers, dunked them into pancake batter and fried, fried, fried till they were golden, crispy, and delicious.

NOTE: I didn't have any Mars Bars, or Oreos, but if I had them on hand, I probably would've deep fried those too!

Okay, these don't look very pretty (taken with my Iphone), but like I mentioned earlier, these will probably be the crudest things I'll ever do to my food. Desperate times calls for desperate measures.

Here's a little snap shot of the inside of the deep fried dumpling, and yes, I did dip these babies into vinegar...*blushes*

My favourite has got to be the deep fried mushrooms due to their juiciness. I'm sorry I didn't get a photo of those! I didn't have this food blog at the time.

Don't have a recipe either, sorry! If anyone wants to try this out, just use a standard pancake recipe, or premade mix.

I'm quite embarassed at how I will throw together some of the most unhealthy meals sometimes...but I did enjoy it, so no regrets!

Come back for more, because next time I'll deep fry pickles, Mars Bars, and Oreos!

Flourless Pecan Brownies

I've been wanting to wait to head on out to a restaurant and review it so I could make it my first post, but then I thought, ah what the heck! Why wait? I'm making brownies!

I found this lovely recipe on Martha Stewart; it's also accompanied by a video demonstration by Sarah Carey. Everyone should subscribe to EverydayFoodVideos on Youtube. It's the best! I actually had a big midterm to cram for today, but this recipe looked so wonderful, I had to take a little break and relax by baking.

I won't write out the recipe since it's written on the link I gave. I did however halve the recipe and substituted pecans with walnuts.

Let's have a closer look shall we?

I didn't add a lot of walnuts as I didn't want it to be too high in calories (I'm watching my weight)! Although these brownies tasted AMAZING, I did regret not putting more walnuts because I enjoyed the crunch it gave. Oh well, next time!

Let me repeat, these brownies were A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! This recipe really made for dense and moist brownies. Because it's flourless, it brought out their double chocolate-y-ness, and not to mention great for those who can't have gluten in their diet! What I love most about these is the shiny, slightly crispy exterior and the almost chewy interior. I love chewy sweets so...

Enough talk, try this recipe! It's oh so easy; no mixer needed, and I guarantee friends and family will be all over these fabulous brownies!

Something New

Hello, Ms. Piggy here!

I'm a lover of food. I'm also obsessed with it. Tell me, what's not great about food? What's better than food? Hmmm...

I owe my love for food to my family. I believe it's hereditary, really! My parents are travellers and love to try new things, especially when it comes to food.
I'm not going to lie, I used to be a picky eater, but I grew to try things, not just once, but twice, sometimes even three times! My philosophy is to try everything once, if you don't like it, try it again! You might like it the second time around.  It's kind of my philosophy for everything really.

Anyways, this blog is something I haven't tried before; a blog dedicated to food. I'm new at this and don't have the best camera in the world, so bare with me! I will be posting recipes, and reviews of restaurants that I'll go to. It'll be fun yeah?
